Foster Innovation with Comet's Unique Abstract Modeling Technology
Comet's groundbreaking Abstract Modeling technology jump starts innovation by helping you simulate more sophisticated designs early in the development process. You no longer have to wait for quality geometry before you begin working on simulations. You can use Abstract Modeling to create domains which are specifications of a subset of the geometry, before the geometry even exists in Comet!
A powerful benefit of the Abstract Model is it allows you to generate your simulation model "on the fly" when CAD geometry is brought into Comet either the first time or with any subsequent iteration to that geometry. Comet automates the process of building a complex, multi-disciplinary simulation model and of changing that model when geometry changes. Abstract Modeling significantly reduces the time and effort required to go from CAD geometry to simulation results, especially when exploring multiple, widely-varying design concepts.
An Abstract Model can be a complete specification of simulation data and processes, including:
- The subset to analyze, including which representations of each part or assembly to use,
- Material specifications,
- Boundary conditions and loads,
- Analysis tools control,
- Rules for simulation tasks (such as mesh generation),
- Process specifications including processes with multiple analysis tools, and,
- Results manipulation.
With Comet's Abstract Modeling technology, expert analysts can capture best practices and your company's standards in simulation templates. These templates can be used by people who are not experts to carry out many types of complex simulation tasks. With simulation templates, you can be assured that such tasks are not subject to interpretation and thus will be carried out precisely. The use of simulation templates frees up the expert analysts to do what they do best: concentrate on more high level analysis. Templates also enable simulation tasks to be conducted by non-experts inside your organization or supplier/service provider base, thus greatly extending those involved in product simulation and for early and more frequent simulation.
Comet enables you to filter geometric attributes for subsequent analysis by "tagging" geometry in a base CAD system. When the geometry is imported for analysis, Comet collects those attributes automatically for pre-planned simulations (using the Abstract Model). Analysis model data such as joints and mass properties are also automatically extracted from CAD and used in downstream analyses.
Abstract Modeling will greatly enhance your product development process. Your workgroup will be able to:
Break the dependence on geometry before simulation work can begin; enable up-front analysis
Quickly study multiple design concepts early in the process
Boost your return on investment in simulation technology
Bring simulation to more engineers and designers, early and more often in the product engineering process
Justify early design decisions through simulation
Catch and fix quality problems when the cost of change is lowest
Eliminate infeasible concepts
Reduce the number of costly physical prototypes
Increase the confidence that the design you ultimately choose is the right one
Significantly reduce the amount of engineering data entry and reentry, saving time and reducing errors
